How the Pathways Program Works

The Pathways Model

Pathways Model

  1. Primary foci are on the topics of innovation and leadership, two outcomes highly sought by Iowa State, CALS, and employers.
  2. The Discovery micro-credential experience offers introductory knowledge of innovation, leadership, and a broad variety of skills required to be an effective leader and innovator.
    1. Beyond the Discovery, participants may select further specific competency badges to earn depending on their personal goals.
  3. The model limits the number of individual modules for more streamlined outcomes, programming, assessment, and badge issuing.
  4. Each micro-credential experience will offer opportunities for intentional reflection to deepen the meaning of experiences and integrated learning to connect learning beyond the classroom.
  5. The program structure is rooted in the revised Bloom’s Taxonomy by Anderson and Krathwohl (2001) and the Integration of Learning Model (ILM) by Barber (2014) to provide scaffolded opportunities to engage in higher-order thinking, intentional reflections, and meaning-making across learning experiences. While the revised Bloom’s Taxonomy provides a guideline for the program structure, we acknowledge that student learning, development, and meaning-making processes are complex and evolve over time.
