CALS Ambassador

Iowa State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) Ambassadors' mission is: to assist CALS in recruiting new undergraduate students to Iowa State University. Recruiting new students is also about providing a future for the university, college, and the agricultural and life sciences industries. As a group, CALS Ambassadors shoulder the activities and events they plan and execute as a great responsibility. The title “Ambassador” also brings with it tremendous opportunities for personal growth, networking, improved communication skills, and furthering knowledge and appreciation of the many areas in the college, making students well-rounded citizens in the world. CALS Ambassadors serve on one of six committees within the organization but help with activities across all committees.

Get Started

Per semester, each member must meet the following criteria:

  1. The member’s cumulative grade point average must remain at or above 2.5/4.0
  2. Ambassadors are required to attend main meetings to keep informed about upcoming events and ongoing trainings. Each ambassador is allowed one absence from our main meetings per semester. An absence total of two or greater, without valid excuse, per semester is grounds for dismissal from the organization.
  3. Upon becoming an ambassador and completing training, individuals will be assigned to serve on a committee. Additionally, attendance is required at committee meetings. Committees will keep track of attendance, attitude, willingness to help, etc. and will report to the executive team. An ambassador may miss no more than two committee meetings per semester. An absence total of three or greater, without valid excuse per semester is grounds from dismissal from the organization.
  4. Ambassadors must obtain a minimum of 20 points (20 hours) with eight of those hours being student contact hours according to the point system per semester. The point system may be adjusted depending on opportunities for credit, but will never be adjusted up.

At the end of each semester, the executive team will review the point totals of each member to verify that they are eligible to continue as a CALS Ambassador.
